Anthony Arno successfully bicycled across America as a college student with the support of Calvin Klein while drawing attention towards the plight of cancer patients. After college, Arno worked as a social worker with disabled adults.
Arno began his teaching career in Brooklyn at P.S. 238 and has received many awards and grants, including presenting at the NJEA Conference, participating in an Earthwatch Sierra-Nevada study of the endangered spotted owl, NASA’s Space Camp, and visiting Japan as a Fulbright Memorial Fund recipient in 2003.
In the 1990’s Arno used the schools only computer connected to the Internet to learn about historic Route 66 while his students bicycled 2000 miles aboard an exercise bicycle in the back of the classroom. During the year long teaching journey students corresponded with people living and working along the famed highway, including Chicago Mayor Daley, Route 66 authors, historic business owners, preservation advocates, and the songwriter who wrote the famous tune for Nat King Cole in 1946.

In 2017 Arno launched The Route 66 Podcast, featuring talks with people living and working along The Mother Road, including popular authors and historic business owners. Through generous Patreon supporters, the podcast has an annual scholarship program where over $1K in awards are given to students who can properly demonstrate the spirit of Route 66.
Arno has retired from teaching elementary school in New Jersey after 27 years but within one year, he back went back to school to become STEM certified. He is now teaching elementary STEM and advises the morning TV news broadcast with students.
In addition to traveling the road every year, Arno is always searching out tales of Route 66 that might not be found between the pages of any Route 66 book. In addition to leading tours, Arno is available for both in-person and virtual presentations featuring the voices of past guests recounting firsthand stories of the world’s most iconic highway.
